Here in the "Land of the Free" we lock up more (and a higher percentage) of our own citizens than any other nation on Earth. Even the former Soviet Union and south Africa under apartheid never exceeded the incarceration rate of present-day America. And more prisons are being built all the time! The Insane "War on Drugs," idiotic mandatory minimum sentences for minor crimes, and misguided "Three Strikes" laws guarantee that our prison population will continue to grow.
